ABSTRACT

To paraphrase the great Colombian writer, Gabriel García Márquez, the world unfolds, in these times, following the cadence imposed by a biological enemy, the Covid-19. Only what’s at stake is not the perennial love between two human beings. Great powers of hegemonic social formation uncover their limitations to the unpredictable.

Today, everyday circumstance forces the state to take spears. The ongoing global recession is the harmful flattery that threatens capitalism. Indebtedness materializes at about twice the world’s GDP. Aggressive fiscal policies appear. In this vein, the U.S. Congress approved a gigantic package of fiscal stimulus worth two trillion euros, more than double the stimulus package implemented at the start of the 2009 Great Recession. The monetary base must expand even at the cost of the deficit that accompanies them.

This may be a new juncture for critical thinking to unsus the matrix of the problem embedded in the DNA of its materiality. Isn’t it time to rethink the production relationships that underpin the system we live in?

In this sense, the work addresses the instance of food production in Latin America, and in Argentina in particular, based on its hegemonic logic projected in the specific field of production, but also in the creation of subjectivities that crystallize in the formation of a common sense identity with said logic.

Key words: Latin America; food production; hegemonic logic
