Este trabajo propone una relectura en clave epistemológica de uno de los más famosos debates al interior del marxismo occidental, aquel que discurre en torno a la naturaleza y las características del Estado capitalista. Este tuvo lugar en la década del 70 y los principales interlocutores fueron Ralph Miliband y Nicos Poulantzas. Esta vuelta hacia atrás, que propone el artículo, tiene como interés principal resaltar el hecho de que la divergencia entre ambos autores se encuentra fundamentalmente anclada a nivel epistemológico y no a nivel político. Si bien los dos coinciden sobre la necesidad de desarrollar una estrategia política que dirija la sociedad hacia un socialismo democrático -allende el estalinismo y la socialdemocracia-, sus puntos de partida epistemológicos y, por lo tanto, sus maneras de concebir el Estado capitalista difieren radicalmente.

ABSTRACT
This paper proposes a rereading in an epistemological key of one of the most famous debates into the western Marxism, that one that passes around the nature and the characteristics of the capitalist State. It took place in the 70’s and the principal speakers were Ralph Miliband and Nicos Poulantzas. This return backward, that proposes the article, has as principal interest stand out the fact that the difference between both authors is fundamentally anchored to epistemological level and not to political level. Though the authors coincide on the need to develop a political strategy that directs the society to a democratic socialism – beyond the Stalinism and the social democracy-, their epistemological points of view and, therefore, their ways of conceiving the capitalist State differ radically.
