ABSTRACT

The theme of this paper is the relationship of a new generation of young argentine people with politics. It takes as its starting point the symptomatic global concern for his alleged conflict, proposing the need to reformulate the problem in context and placed under a definition of the youth are not normative ideal marked by the generation of 60 and 70. In this line, we present findings from recent empirical research (Kriger, 2010, FLACSO) conducted among young students in Buenos Aires, which allows us to reconstruct the research problem from the perspective of the actors themselves. Is proposed to extend the investigation of the link to «politics”, evaluating its tensions with two key dimensions of understanding and construction of the ordinary, which is interlinked with it: the «national identity» and «citizenship.» From there, it shows that the uniqueness of our case is that young people are not apathy but a strong identification with the nation. But their positive self-rating as future agents is correlated with a negative assessment of «politics» and an idealized «citizenship», which raises the question of how to make their expectations, regardless of the citizenship policy and exerting a detached and even contrary to it. It finally argues that the «hypertrophy of identity» is a strategy that supplements the cognitive deficit, enabling the re-mythic but hindering the political construction of the nation.
